Trading

Buy supplies, sell goods, and exchange faction coins for Pieces of Eight.

Traders & specialties

Traders buy and sell weapons, armor, resources, food, drinks, ships, and cargo using Pieces of Eight. Regular shops carry basic supplies, while specialty traders offer additional equipment and faction-specific stock. Regular traders may also buy specialty items without selling them. Trading requires at least 35 reputation (Distrusted) with the trader’s faction, with higher-tier offers unlocking at 60 (Friendly I), 75 (Friendly II), and 100 (Allied). Some selling prices also improve with reputation.

Currency exchanges

Currency exchanges convert faction coins into Pieces of Eight. Exchanges generally do not accept their own faction’s currency, encouraging you to carry coins into other territories. Rates vary by location, with coins generally becoming more valuable farther from their faction’s territory. For example, 5 Pirate Republic Doubloons exchange for 3 Pieces of Eight in Port Royal, but 5 in Barbados. Compare the posted rates before choosing where to cash in.

Reputation matters

Distrusted and Neutral standings allow basic trades. Higher reputation unlocks individual offers. Hostile standings block trading and spawning with that faction.

Basic35+ reputation
Friendly I60+ reputation
Friendly II75+ reputation
Allied100+ reputation

Each offer lists its minimum standing. Some shops pay more for the same item at higher reputation; the game selects your highest unlocked sell tier.

On PvP servers, trading can improve reputation, including with a faction’s friends. Pirate reputation can recover on PvP servers, but not on faction servers.
